Our Story

Perch Planters was founded in 2024 by three dear friends who met through the vibrant underground art and indie music scene of early 2000s Los Angeles. Bonded by their shared passion for creative living and thoughtful design, the trio set out to build nature-nurturing products that would "perch" beautifully in any environment, actively improving the spaces they occupy.

At Perch, we know how impactful Plants are to our lives, and we believe the vessels that hold them should be works of art in their own right.

J.P. Rivera

Head of Design

Born to a celebrated graphic designer and a fashion illustrator, John-Pierre was destined for a creative path. With training across diverse mediums—product design at ArtCenter, printmaking at UCSB, and ceramics at Valley College—he has explored nearly every aspect of fine art and design. While at the University of Arizona, he honed his skills in metalwork under MFA grad David Flynn, mastering welding, forging, and metal fabrication, which would later shape his landscaping career.

Today, John-Pierre’s passion for plants, especially succulents, and his eye for color and metalwork bring a distinctive vision to every project. His enthusiasm and creativity drive The Perch Project, crafting products with life, purpose, and joy.

RD White

Head of Creative

From illegal raves to award-winning productions, R.D. White's creative odyssey reads like a love letter to artistic evolution. Steeped in the rebellious spirit of 90s counter-culture, his obsession with skateboarding and post-punk expression were transformed almost overnight, after a life-changing experience at a Los Angeles underground rave. It was a crystallizing moment that set him on an extraordinary creative trajectory spanning three decades.

Under various aliases, R.D. spent the next 20 years as a DJ and electronic musician, transforming dance floors at countless festivals, clubs, and venues, and sharing bills with some of the era's biggest acts. Simultaneously, his obsession with sound, passion for film, and proximity to Hollywood pulled him deep into film and television, spurring a parallel career in Sound Design and Sound Effects editing for every medium imaginable.

After a brief stint in San Francisco, R.D. found himself back in LA, where a life-long creative partner gave him a shot at something new: a job as a video editor. The transition from sound editing was hyper-natural, and his innate ability to craft visual storytelling through the lens of musical composition brought instant familiarity and creativity to the editorial process. He was hooked. It was one giant leap into visual storytelling, and gave birth to an entirely new career in creative advertising.

Today, R.D.'s ventures continue to expand and intertwine. His award winning work in film, television and online content has evolved into a multi-disciplined creative studio. Through music composition, sound design, motion graphics, and video editorial, R.D. keeps pushing himself into new creative endeavors. It's that very spirit that led him to Perch, where he helps market design-forward products that merge form and function with artistic expression. It's another wonderful creative progression for someone whom, whether through sound, image, or physical design, the fundamental principles of creativity are a life-blood.
